I’m Shaun Pook of Pixel Perfect Photography Ltd, based at The Boatyard Gallery & Studio in Waldringfield, Suffolk, near Woodbridge.

With more than 35 years of photographic experience, I offer relaxed, practical tuition for photographers of all abilities.

There are no crowded classrooms, no pressure to keep up with a group and no unnecessary technical jargon.

Personal Photography Tuition

Every photographer is different, so every 1-to-1 session is different.

Before we start, we look at what you already know, what camera and lenses you use and what you would like to improve.

Your session can include:

• Understanding your camera settings

• Getting away from Auto mode

• Aperture, shutter speed and ISO

• Autofocus and focus-area settings

• Wildlife photography techniques

• Landscape photography

• Composition

• Choosing the right lens

• Exposure compensation

• Photographing moving subjects

• Creative photography

• Telling a story through your photographs

• Reviewing your images and identifying ways to improve them

Most importantly, you can ask questions as we go.

There is no set syllabus that you have to follow.

Bring Your Own Camera

I encourage you to learn using your own camera and lenses.

Whether you use Nikon, Canon, Sony, Fujifilm, Olympus, Panasonic or another camera system, the aim is to help you understand the equipment you already own.

DSLR and mirrorless cameras are both welcome.

If you have recently bought a new camera and find all the menus, autofocus modes and settings confusing, a personal session can save hours of frustration.

Wildlife Photography Tuition in Suffolk

Wildlife photography is one of my own main areas of photography and can form part or all of your session.

Depending on the session and conditions, we can look at:

• Autofocus settings for birds and wildlife

• Subject tracking

• Photographing birds in flight

• Shutter-speed selection

• Camera setup for fast-moving subjects

• Working with long lenses

• Hand-holding techniques

• Composition and backgrounds

• Fieldcraft and approaching wildlife responsibly

• Making photographs rather than simply recording what you see

Where appropriate, tuition can take place at locations around Waldringfield, the River Deben and other suitable Suffolk wildlife locations.

Landscape Photography

Being based beside the River Deben at Waldringfield gives us an excellent location for learning landscape photography.

We can work on:

• Composition

• Understanding natural light

• Exposure

• Depth of field

• Using foreground interest

• Photographing water

• Reflections

• Choosing focal lengths

• Creating atmosphere and mood

• Getting more from sunrise, sunset and changing weather

The aim isn't simply to teach camera settings.

It is to help you start seeing photographs before you press the shutter.

Beginner Photography Tuition

You don't need to know anything complicated before booking.

If you have bought your first DSLR or mirrorless camera and aren't sure where to begin, we can start with the basics.

We'll work through your camera logically and practically so that settings such as shutter speed, aperture, ISO and autofocus begin to make sense.

You can stop me whenever something isn't clear.

There are no silly questions.

More Experienced Photographers

1-to-1 tuition isn't only for beginners.

If you already understand your camera but want to improve a particular area of your photography, we can concentrate entirely on that.

That might include wildlife photography, composition, creative techniques, working with longer lenses or simply looking at why some photographs work better than others.

Bring some of your own photographs if you wish and we can discuss them during the session.
